Built in 1951, the
Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn Stadion was the
premier athletics stadium of the former
GDR. In 1984 Uwe Hohn set a world javelin
record of 104.80m, causing the IAAF to
change the design of the javelin. The
Stadion was also used as the venue for
GDR international football matches. The
current seating capacity is approximately
19,000.
